The rollout of the new healthcare initiatives instituted by President Obama has caused some changes to how all of health insurance companies work. While some of the changes simply have to do with what can and will be covered and what won’t, other changes are to the processes alone. For instance, Medicare’s enrollment period the Annual Coordinated Election, has moved up the time to enroll.
In the past the general time for Medicare enrollment was from November 15th to December 31st. In 2011, for the first time, Medicare enrollment will begin a month earlier and end almost a month earlier than it has in the past in order to be more prompt. In 2011 the dates will change to October 15th through December 7th for people that are enrolling in the government’s health care.
This earlier date is seen as being a little less convenient by some and the shorter enrollment period has been a source of complaint. However, the ability to be done with enrollment before the holidays are in full swing and allow Medicare to work out the remaining kinks is surely worth it. Be sure to complete your own enrollment on time to ensure that you have health insurance.
