Don’ts of the Medicare Advantage Special Enrollment Period

There are some things that you cannot do when you are switching from Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare from January 1st to February 14th. During this time there are some things that are absolutely frowned upon and they are listed below:

Switching from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another is not allowed as it would cause a lot of chaos for everyone involved. For those that think they simply chose the wrong Medicare Advantage Plan you are out of luck for this year.
Only switching from Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare coverage is allowed, not the opposite course of action. This is plainly to say that you can get out of your decision if you think that Medicare Advantage was the wrong choice altogether.
You can add a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan if you switched from Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare. However, you cannot simply add a prescription drug plan because you failed to do so in the first place.
It may be something that you need desperately but it will also be harder to save tax free if you don’t do it the first time. Medicare Medical Savings Account Plans are not available to switch, drop or join during this time period.
