Does Medicare cover Transportation to Doctor’s Offices?

Medicare is a vitally important part of our society today for the impact it has on the elderly and disabled populations.  Thanks to the many coverage options that are available through Medicare these members of our society have a better chance of living a happy and comfortable life.  However, just because Medicare makes so many things possible doesn’t mean you should assume that they cover everything associated with your medical care.

For instance, many people assume that since Medicare works with the elderly and disabled that they would provide assistance in transporting the individuals to and from the doctor.  This is not the case with Medicare, though there may be other options available to you if this is a necessity in your case or the case of a loved one.  Check in to your local aging agency to see if any programs are offered.

If there are no local programs offered through the government you should check in with local churches and community centers.  They will often sponsor trips to the doctor for local citizens and you don’t know if you don’t ask.  If these things are offered locally you can get the transportation that you or your loved one need and enjoy the comforts of your life.
