Flu Season Approaches for Medicare Coverage

Every year the same madness descends on our society when the talk of flu season approaching comes in to play.  Everyone has their own approach to the chaos, basing their own decision on whether to get vaccinated or not on a variety of different arguments.  If you are one of the millions of people that errs on the side of caution and gets vaccinated every year and is on Medicare there are a few things you should know.
 
First, Medicare does pay for your flu shot once per year, regardless of if the shot occurs in the fall or winter time.  There are rarely exceptions to this rule but when freak situations like the H1N1 epidemic occur you should verify if more vaccinations are covered.  Medicare coverage is always more forgiving, as most health insurance plans are, of preventative services.
 
People who have Medicare Part B will be covered according to these guidelines and will pay no fee as long as they have the coverage.  If you do not have Medicare Plan B you should contact your insurance provider to see if there are any other options.  If not, contact your local public health department to see if any free flu shot clinics are being offered at any time.
